The Centre of Excellence for Technology, Quantum and AI (CETQAP), in collaboration with Quantum Community Pakistan, has proudly declared 10th December as Pakistan Quantum Day in tribute to Nobel Laureate Dr. Abdus Salam. This date marks the anniversary of Dr. Salam’s historic Nobel Prize in Physics win on 10th December 1979, awarded for his groundbreaking contributions to theoretical physics.
This declaration, made during the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology 2025 #IYQ2025, aims to recognize Dr. Abdus Salam’s legacy while promoting quantum science and technology in Pakistan. Although this is not an official Government of Pakistan announcement, Quantum Community Pakistan intend to observe this day annually to highlight Pakistan’s growing role in the global quantum landscape.
On 10th December 1979, Dr. Abdus Salam became the first Pakistani to win a Nobel Prize in Physics, an achievement that placed Pakistan on the world map of scientific excellence. CETQAP’s declaration seeks to ensure that this date is remembered not just for its historical significance, but as an annual reminder of Pakistan’s potential in advanced scientific research.
The day will serve multiple purposes:
Celebrating Scientific Legacy – Honoring Dr. Abdus Salam’s contributions to physics.
Promoting Quantum Science in Pakistan – Hosting seminars, workshops, and public outreach events.
Inspiring Future Scientists – Encouraging students to pursue careers in quantum research and innovation.
“Pakistan Quantum Day is our tribute to Dr. Abdus Salam and a call to action for the next generation of scientists,” said a Quantum Community Pakistan spokesperson. “It’s about inspiring Pakistan to take its rightful place in the future of quantum computing, quantum communication, and quantum technology.”
The initiative comes at a time when quantum science in Pakistan is gaining momentum, with CETQAP at the forefront of quantum education, research, and technology adoption.
By declaring Pakistan Quantum Day, CETQAP and Quantum Community Pakistan are making a clear statement: Pakistan is ready to lead in quantum innovation and contribute to the rapidly advancing global scientific community.
